About this resource
5 mystery-driven Science Unlocked lesson sets for grade 4, about 5 weeks of science instruction. Each set opens with a real, surprising phenomenon, builds the science one level at a time, and ends with students cracking the case in a claim-evidence-reasoning (CER) write-up.
Topics: waves, parts of a plant, claim evidence reasoning (CER), science phenomenon, review games.
Bundle price: $12.50 for 5 sets ($2.50 a set). Bought one at a time, these sets cost $15.
Sets in this bundle
- The Concert Quake (4-PS4-1, Waves: Amplitude & Wavelength). At a 2023 concert in Seattle, dancing fans shook the ground so much that a machine across the street recorded it. Nobody touched the machine. How did the fans make it move?
- The Vanishing Diamond (4-PS4-2, Light, Reflection & How We See). An artist and scientists coated a sparkling diamond with the darkest coating anyone had ever made. People looked right at it and saw only a flat, black hole. The diamond was still there. Why couldn’t they see it?
- The Parachute Code (4-PS4-3, Patterns to Transfer Information). In 2021, a rover landed on Mars under a giant red-and-white parachute. The pattern hid a secret message. How can a pattern of two colors carry words?
- The Camel’s Hump (4-LS1-1, Plant & Animal Structures and Functions). A thirsty camel can gulp about 30 gallons of water in about 13 minutes. Many people say it stores the water in its hump. Is a camel’s hump really a water tank?
- The Star-Nosed Speed Eater (4-LS1-2, Animal Senses & the Brain). A little mole that can barely see finds and gulps food in the dark mud in about a quarter of a second. How can it find food so fast without seeing it?
