About this resource
5 mystery-driven Science Unlocked lesson sets for grade 4, about 5 weeks of science instruction. Each set opens with a real, surprising phenomenon, builds the science one level at a time, and ends with students cracking the case in a claim-evidence-reasoning (CER) write-up.
Topics: heat energy, engineering design process, natural resources, claim evidence reasoning (CER), science phenomenon, review games.
Bundle price: $12.50 for 5 sets ($2.50 a set). Bought one at a time, these sets cost $15.
Sets in this bundle
- The Water Knife (4-PS3-1, Speed & Energy). Some factories cut cake, foam, and even steel with a thin stream of water. Water is soft. How can it cut?
- The Rattling Window (4-PS3-2, Energy Transfer: Sound, Light, Heat & Electricity). A storm is miles away. FLASH! Ten seconds later — BOOM — and the window glass rattles. Nothing touched it. How did the lightning’s energy get all the way to the window?
- The Super Bounce (4-PS3-3, Energy in Collisions). A teacher drops a tennis ball stacked on a basketball. The tennis ball rockets up — far higher than where it started! Where does the tennis ball get its super bounce?
- Light From a Bag of Rocks (4-PS3-4, Energy Conversion Design). A lamp has no battery, no plug, and no solar panel. Lift a bag of rocks, and it glows for about 20 minutes. How can a bag of rocks make light?
- The Coal Museum’s Solar Roof (4-ESS3-1, Energy Resources & Environmental Effects). In 2017, a museum all about Kentucky coal put about 80 solar panels on its roof. Why would a coal museum make electricity from sunlight?
Every set includes
- An editable Teacher Deck with answers highlighted and speaker notes (what to say, support and GT tips).
